Julie Ann Scali
About Literacy Impact

Hi, I'm Julie Scali

I am a passionate educator, consultant and Learning Difficulties specialist. As a former Deputy Principal leading whole school improvement I have a deep understanding of the pressures principals and teachers face, and the varied needs of students.

My mission

Many years ago, as a graduate teacher teaching a Year 4 class, I had a student named Jacob who I quickly learnt could read no more than a few words. It broke my heart. From that moment, I have made it my mission to make a difference in education, to be a champion of every Jacob of the world and an advocate for exemplary educational practice.

As the founder of Literacy Impact, my mission is to help teachers, school leaders and changemakers bridge the gap between evidence based research and literacy success for every student.

My approach

My approach in supporting schools is strengths-based and personalised to the unique context of every school. Working with you to identify what is already making an impact- and aligning this with your school vision- I work with school leaders and teachers to embed high impact educational frameworks and approaches with the goal of every student leaving primary school as an effective reader, speller and writer.

My background

For many years I was a Deputy Principal, leading change management in the science of reading and writing, Response to Intervention and data informed practice.

Earlier in my career, I spent 5 years in the UK, with 4 years as a Special Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in a South-East London school, leading inclusive practices school-wide, as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

As a Fogarty Scholar and award winner of the Graduate Certificate in Education: Learning Difficulties, I was also a Learning Difficulties and Online Learning Support Teacher at the Centre for Inclusive Schooling (SSEND) providing state-wide school support and professional learning in metropolitan and rural schools.

I am highly trained in evidence based Literacy pedagogy and instructional leadership and I inspire educators to get the best out of every student, every day. My work has been published in Education Review, The Reading Teacher, Learning Difficulties Australia Bulletin and Class Ideas K-3.

I would love to partner with you on your school’s Literacy success journey.
